My MINI rattles for a second on cold start — is that the timing chain?
On the N14 and N18 engines, very often yes. It is the tensioner or chain guides. Caught early it is a chain-and-guide job; ignored, the chain can jump and damage the engine. Have it checked soon.
Do you work on the JCW and Countryman?

Do I have to go to the dealer for MINI service?
